Some archaeologists date the pickling method to ancient Mesopotamia (2400 BC). Pickles are mentioned twice in the Bible (Numbers 11:5 and Isaiah 1:8), and Aristotle himself in 350 BC preached the healing properties of pickles. They were even given to Julius Caesar’s troops in order to improve their physical and spiritual capabilities.
